I came to be a wedding photographer the long way around; my dad loved photography and what I recollect most are the long walks we took together. My dad had his camera in one hand, and the dog leash in the other. Even still to this day, my happiest moments are walking in the forest, a camera in one hand, a leash in the other, and a couple of dogs running in ahead of me.
When my dad retired from photography, I inherited his old Canon film cameras and all of his lenses and his equipment. It was like a long lost friend showed up at my doorstep; immediately I was transported back to those forests of my youth, walking with my dad and him taking pictures.
For the first few years, I was completely obsessed with mastering the craft of photography and Photoshop. Seriously! I would wake up in the middle of the night thinking about F-stops, wide-angle lenses and all that stuff. As I became better and better, friends invited me to take pictures of their dogs and children. Then a friend asked me if I would mind photographing her wedding, and I have to tell you, I was absolutely terrified by the idea of it. But I don’t believe in allowing fear getting the best of me, so I welcomed the challenge and I was instantaneously in love! It was like wedding photography was intended for me… as if all my life had directed me to this. It was such a wild feeling, and to this day, I distinctly recall how it the entire day made tingle with excitement. I kept thinking “I want to do this for the rest of my life.”
So, here we are, 80+ weddings later, and I am still completely infatuated with wedding photography. On Wednesday, I am excited for the weekend to come, because I get to do what I love. What could be better than that?
Thanks for allowing me to ramble and thank you for your interest in my work…please don’t hesitate to contact me, I always love to talk about photography, dogs, and most importantly how we can be part of your wedding day team.
